Getting started
What the First Thirty Days Can Look Like
By Compliance Vine® · · 3 min read
Getting started should leave you clear about what happens next, who does the work and what a successful first month looks like. That is more useful than a promise that everything will be finished by a particular day.
Here is a practical sequence for a first month. The timing depends on your platform, available records, chosen services and review schedule.
First, choose the work you want help with
There are different starting points. Compliance Vine® Desktop prepares reporting from your data. Compliance Vine LIVE checks orders through supported commerce integrations. Guided Launch provides defined setup help, while Managed Filing covers the recurring work agreed in a separate service scope.
You may need one of these or a combination. Start with the problem you want to solve and the person who currently owns it. If an accountant or compliance consultant handles the work, include them in the conversation.
Week one: gather the facts and agree on the scope
For a reporting comparison, identify the sales systems, reporting period and existing filings you want to use. For an order-check or store-setup project, prepare your license information, shipping origin and relevant platform details.
Review tax registrations and other obligations alongside the license list. The setup should reflect the business's actual requirements, with questions resolved before settings are changed.
Agree on the people involved, the access needed and how proposed changes will be approved. Data preparation or missing records may take additional work; identifying that early makes the plan more useful.
Week two: connect or configure the relevant workflow
For Desktop reporting, establish the supported connections or imports and check that a sample period contains the expected transactions. Installing a commerce app is a separate step when LIVE is part of the project.
Guided Launch currently covers Shopify store setup. It includes work around license information, tax settings, state-specific configuration and a report of the setup and any platform limitations identified. Ask us about the appropriate scope for Commerce7 or Wix.
During setup, our team works in the areas needed for that task, including tax settings, products, locations and store settings. LIVE's processing of order data for compliance checks is a separate part of the product, described in the privacy policy. Access and approval should be clear for both.
Weeks two to four: compare, review and decide
Use a period you have already filed to compare the reporting output with your source records and existing return. Look at differences by transaction and category rather than judging only whether the final totals match.
For LIVE, review sample decisions and the team's process for exceptions before enabling holds. Decide who handles missing information and who approves release.
The result should be a workflow your team understands: the inputs, the output, the review and the person responsible for the next step. Continue meeting your existing filing obligations while that evaluation happens.

Agree on what happens after setup
Setup work and ongoing support need distinct scopes. Discuss the price, included work and any recurring checks before engaging the service. A Guided Launch should not be read as a promise of unlimited continuing support.
If you choose Managed Filing, the written scope identifies the returns and periods covered, who prepares and reviews them, how approval works and who submits. Licensing assistance and other tasks should be named explicitly when included.
The goal for that first month is a process you can use with confidence, and a clearer view of the work you can hand over.
